A BIG thank you to Robin Thomas for his efforts in organising Recoco Property Search’s participation in this year’s Devon County Show. We proudly sponsored local, Devon farmers entering Pedigree Devon & Cornwall Longwool Sheep, which they achieved a winning status in their respective class.
The Devon County Show is a standout event on the countryside and Devon annual calendar.
The event features a delightful mix of Devon attractions, exhibitions, trade stands, crafts, and food, celebrating rural life in all its forms. As the premier agricultural event, it offers something for everyone.
Recoco is proud to sponsor Pedigree Devon & Cornwall Longwool Sheep
A breed native to Recoco’s origin county, we’re excited to share some insights about the Devon and Cornwall Longwool sheep, a remarkable breed that holds a special place in the agricultural heritage of the UK!
The Devon and Cornwall Longwool is a very hardy sheep with a docile temperament. They are of a medium-size, white-faced breed and notable for their lack of horns. Its sturdy, well-boned frame is supported by stout legs set apart, creating a very symmetrical appearance. One of its most significant features is its exceptional fleece of wool. This breed has black nostrils and short, thick ears covered with dense white hair, a short and thick neck that’s well-integrated into the shoulders. It boasts well-sprung ribs with considerable depth, a flat, wide, and long back - a breed is well-suited to the challenging conditions of the Southwest of England and produces a well-developed leg of mutton.
As we look to the future, it’s crucial to support and promote the conservation of the Devon and Cornwall Longwool sheep. Their unique characteristics and historical significance make them a vital part of our agricultural heritage and a symbol of sustainable farming.
The Devon County Show began in May 1872 and since then, each year, attendees can look forward to classes for Alpacas, Beef and Dairy Cattle, Sheep, Horse Showing Classes, Show Jumping, Pony Club Games, and Young Handler competitions. There will also be an Open Dog Show and a Poultry Display.
Additionally, visitors can explore a wide variety of trade stands and be sure to check out the Food Hall and the Crafts and Gifts Marquee.
A true community event celebrating agricultural heritage and tradition, as well as a chance for local farmers to showcase their prize livestock and promote sustainable farming practices.
