Cornwall was iconic and appealing enough anyway after a 1980s/1990s burst in popularity…and then along came Poldark. The BBC television series which re-booted the 1970s classic based on books about Cornish intrigue and romance seemed to create a whole new love affair for the Duchy, among UK visitors and beyond.

And little wonder why – Cornwall just about has it all. Dramatic, sweeping beaches, rugged, windswept coves, pretty historic fishing villages and wide open, isolated moors.
