The View
What is a view? As with every other aspect of finding that perfect property it is in the eye of the beholder what constitutes a great view. It could be a dramatic landscape encompassing the wild Dartmoor landscape -equally it could be a harbour view watching the nautical activity. People watching is a fascinating and ever changing spectacle that appeals to those preferring urban living (or just the nosey village neighbours!!).
Contemporary houses are built to have light and by default will create an inside/outside living feel. Closeness of neighbours in city landscapes is hard to avoid but in rural Devon it is a luxury many still enjoy and pay a good price to achieve. The internet speed may be a little slower but that is a small price to pay for quality of life.
Matching the expectations of a view with the house itself is challenging. Maybe a bigger compromise is needed than is expected – practicality will as ever dictate as life’s daily needs take precedent. The reverse can also happen – the imperfect house may just have an unexpected view that will be the deciding factor in buying it.
Devon has a view around every corner -from the centre of Exeter there are few places where the surrounding countryside isn’t glimpsed. Travelling just a few miles west to Dartmoor and the wild dramatic scenes spread out before you with endless vistas to be explored. The wild north coast, the Jurassic coast of East Devon and the sublime scenes of South Devon -we are spoilt for choice!
