The Three ‘R’s!
The long days of the school summer holidays stretching out ahead of you seem just a memory now and Christmas is round the corner! In between, the Autumn term sees a new academic year unfold and children and parents settling into the routine. But now is the time to look at the next stage of a child’s education to gain a place in a chosen school next September. As with everything it is essential to consider the options available, of which there are many. Independent or State system – boarding or day? Well, Devon is blessed with a wide range of schools in both sectors offering parents a choice across the county that rivals any part of the country. Combine this with the transient population and the communication and technology allowing businesses to be based anywhere, it is little wonder the Devon schools are reaching capacity. The combination of first class education in a county that provides a lifestyle that is the envy of many a London commuter is very special. Beach bar-b-ques after school are far better than fighting commuter traffic.
Schools do have an effect on the values of property. I find people not only asking me where are the best places to live, but which are the best schools? Both are subjective and personal and as life evolves priorities can change. Many will find the stability of settling in one place outweigh the changes occurring during your children’s school careers. Hence, some serious homework is needed well in advance to assess your education needs and choosing the schools most suited to you financially, practically and socially.
It is not my place to pass judgement on any school so I will consider the property angle near the schools that most affect that demand. Devon has several grammar schools in South and East Devon, with excellent independent schools spread across the county. These offer a diverse range of attributes for all abilities. There are also the many community schools, most of which achieve excellent Ofsted reports. Spoilt for choice you could say!
So, a few wonderful properties currently available near schools, some within walking distance ,thereby evading any early morning traffic stress!
