Living by The Sea

I recently watched a television programme saying people living by the sea are generally healthier, more content and sympathetic to others living in urban environs. I am neither medically nor scientifically qualified to comment on this statement but I do know the lure of waterfront properties is always an attraction. It brings with it a premium in house prices which causes conflict with the local population feeling they are pushed out so all is not necessarily as rosy as surveys suggest.

Without doubt a walk along the seashore, an early morning wild swimming dip or a coffee at a beachfront café sets the mind at rest, puts fresh air in the lungs and cannot be matched. Watching the sunset across the water with glass of wine in hand…. now I’m getting romantic….

What better waterfront destinations to find that magical home than in Devon. The wild North Coast, the famous surfing beaches or the sheltered coves in South Devon, a favourite with the sailing fraternity. The popularity of waterfront properties often means demand exceeds supply so inevitably there is premium to pay - generally at least 20% for a front-line access to the water. Go a little way in land and you will certainly get more for your money - and maybe fewer crowds!

2021 has to be a time of reassessment – the pace of life and what is important -health must be the priority - never have we seen the effects of illness to the extent we have. Time to address the imbalance on the planet created by man striving for bigger and better things. In David Attenborough’s words -the planet was perfect and then man came along and threatened its very existence.
